For a cool version if you’re in a warmer climate, skip the microwave and place the sock in the freezer for 45 minutes instead.

As a responsible cat owner, you must take your cat's physical and mental health very seriously. Obesity can significantly shorten your feline's life and have a serious negative impact on their well-being.

So, How can you tell if your cat is overweight?

There is a test you can do right now to get an idea about your cat's weight situation. However, it's important to note that it's not easy to tell if your cat is overweight on your own. Factors like your cat's specific breed, age, and fur length can make it very tricky for an inexperienced person to tell.
Here's what you're going to do: Bring your cat and Look at her from above, A healthy cat should have a waistline that is visible when viewed from above. If your cat's sides are bulging, they are likely overweight. On the other hand, if their waistline is very obvious, they are likely underweight.
In addition to the visual assessment, Your cat's ribs, spine, and hip bones should be easily felt without being clearly visible. One of the many things a vet can do that you can't is rule out potential underlying medical causes for obesity before beginning any weight loss program.
With that said, there are some general tips that will benefit all cats reach and maintain a healthy weight. But again, these tips are not a substitute for a vet visit.

#1. Avoid free-feeding. Free-feeding means leaving food out for your cat all day long. This can lead to overeating and weight gain. Instead, establish a regular feeding schedule. Just make sure not to use very small items that can be a choking hazard.

#3. Limit treats: Treats can be high in calories, so it's important to limit them. You can give your cat small treats as rewards for good behavior, but don't make them a regular part of their diet.

Extra Paw Pad:
Have you ever wondered how cats can lean so far forward from the edge of a high wall without tipping over? The answer is their carpal pads. Apart from the five cute pads on a cat's paw, there is one extra pad that is positioned slightly away from the others.
It's only found on the backside of each front leg, not on the rear ones. Its main purpose is to provide the cat with extra traction when they are going down a hill or a tree or when they make a sudden stop or a turn while running.
When a cat leans forward, the carpal pads press against the wall, which keeps them from tipping over. This also allows them to retreat or cancel the jump if they change their mind.

It's important to check the pocket regularly for signs of infection or parasites. If you notice any redness, swelling, or discharge, you should consult your veterinarian.

Inner Eyelid:
You might have spotted this transparent layer in your cat's eyes before and wondered what its purpose is. Cats have an extra eyelid known as the nictitating membrane, or the third eyelid. It's a retractable transparent membrane located in the inner corner of each eye.
When a cat blinks, the nictitating membrane moves diagonally across the eye very quickly acting like a windshield wiper to clear foreign objects from the eye. It also helps produce tears that keep the eye moist.
Usually, you don’t really see a cat’s third eyelid because it’s hidden from view when retracted inside the corner of the eye. Sometimes, you might be able to see the third eyelid if your cat is very relaxed. like when your cat just woke up from a deep sleep or is about to fall asleep.
In many cases, the appearance of a third eyelid indicates that something is wrong. In general, if you notice your cat’s third eyelid protruding for more than a few hours, you should contact your veterinarian.

Jacobson's organ:
Have you ever noticed your cat making this weird facial expression? This expression is known as the flehmen reaction. It is simply your cat using a secret organ that you may not have known they have. This organ is called Jacobson's organ, and it is located in the roof of the mouth.
It helps them detect odorless pheromones that are undetectable to humans. This allows them to identify potential mates, communicate with each other about their mood or reproductive status. They can also use it to navigate their environment, such as finding food sources by detecting pheromones left by other animals, or finding their way back home.

Vertical pupils:
Cats are ambush predators. which means they hide and wait for their prey before attacking. In order for the attack to be successful, they need to judge how far away their prey is. The vertical shape of their pupils gives them a superior depth of field, which helps them judge distance. Additionally, vertical pupils allow more light to enter the eye, which is important for hunting in low light conditions.
Not all cats have vertical pupils. For example, big cats like lions and tigers have round pupils. This is because big cats are not ambush predators. They are active hunters that chase their prey. Round pupils are better suited for this type of hunting because they give the cat clear focus across their entire field of view.
